Bartender of the Month

Allan Powell
This month we feature another bartender from Bermuda, Allan Powell, who works stateside in Tilton, New Hampshire. Tending bar at the Onions Pub in the bed and breakfast he runs with his wife Kathy, Allan welcomes his guests with true Bermudian hospitality, and of course with drinks made with the island’s signature spirit, Gosling’s Rum. His pub menu even features traditional Bermuda Fish Chowder made with Gosling’s Black Seal® Rum.

Allan’s favorite Gosling’s drinks include Bermuda’s National Drink - the Dark ‘n Stormy®, and inventive twists on classics like the “Swizzletini,” a blend of Black Seal Rum, Gosling’s Gold Rum, Triple Sec, fresh orange and pineapple juice, Angostura bitters, and falernum served up in a martini glass.

Allan and his wife Kathy bought the Tilton Inn in 2010 after making the move to New Hampshire from Bermuda, where they owned and operated Wharf Tavern and Freddie’s Pub on the Square in St. George’s. They renovated the inn’s pub and restaurant, and decided to name the new venture “Onions” after their Bermudian heritage.

Allan and his family are avid sailors; his daughter Haley is the former US Female National Champion in the Optimist Class. His son Ryan is also an avid sailor, and enjoys cooking, lacrosse and the martial arts. His dream is to one day take over at Onions.
