HAMILTON, Bermuda and BOLTON, Mass. (October 13, 2009) – Tuesday, September 22, 2009, may have seemed like the average day on the golf course for William H. Pineo of Easton, Mass. That was until he registered a hole-in-one on the par-3 4th hole at The International in Bolton, Mass., and walked away with a four-day, three-night trip for two to Bermuda courtesy of Gosling’s Rum.

Pineo, a member at LeBaron Hills Country Club in Lakeville, Mass., was playing in the New England Club Managers Association’s 24th Annual David Meador Scholarship Fund Tournament when he made the ace, the second of his career. Gosling’s Rum, the largest exporter of a Bermuda-made product with its famous Black Seal® Rum, sponsored the “Ace Your Way to Bermuda” contest at the event as it had done at a variety of golf tournaments throughout the past year, including the Deutsche Bank Championship Pro-Am at the TPC Boston this past Labor Day. But until Pineo’s memorable 7-iron shot to the 161-yard par-3, no golfer had claimed the Bermuda vacation.

“It was an incredible feeling,” Pineo said of the ace. “It is so rare to get a hole in one, but to get one on a hole with a special prize like a trip to Bermuda is awesome. I want to thank Gosling’s Rum for the opportunity and for this wonderful trip.”

According to a 1999 article in Golf Digest, the odds of a PGA TOUR pro making a hole-in-one is about 1 in 3,756. Those odds become even more extreme for an amateur, which the magazine lists at about 1 in 12,750. All of which makes Pineo’s accomplishment even more impressive.

“We’re thrilled to have William Pineo become our first ‘Ace Your Way to Bermuda’ winner,” said Malcolm Gosling, Jr., CEO of Gosling-Castle Partners, Inc. “Everyone in our family knows well what an incredible country Bermuda is so it’s exciting that Mr. Pineo’s accomplishment now will allow him to experience the warmth and hospitality of this great island.”

For winning the grand prize, Pineo will receive roundtrip air from Boston to Bermuda as well as three nights accommodations at the Southampton Princess.
