GOLF.com WORLD AMATEUR HANDICAP CHAMPIONSHIP
1 Jul 2012
If golf is your passion, then this year's GOLF.com World Amateur Handicap Championship is where you want to be. Gosling's Bermuda Rum is delighted to be the official rum of the World Am Championship to be held during August 27 - 31, 2012.
The largest and most fun-filled amateur golf tournament on the planet was first played back in 1984 with 684 participants. Numerous celebrities have been part of the fun over the years, including Major League Baseball stars Roger Clemens and Tony Womack, LPGA champion Annika Sorenstam, NASCAR great Jeff Gordon, and CBS Sports and Golf Channel Commentator, David Feherty.
The granddaddy of all such golf events features 72-holes of intense stroke play competition, a thrilling 18-hole championship playoff, lots of gifts and prizes, plus nightly parties and entertainment. And it remains one of the best values in competitive golf. But at the heart of its enduring success is the camaraderie among participants. This is where lifelong friendships are forged.
Anyone can play. Anyone can win.
The World Am is open to all golfers – men, women, young and old – with a certified USGA handicap. It features six competitive divisions, ranging from men and women 49 and under to the super seniors (70+). Within the divisions, golfers are flighted by closely grouped handicaps. The event features between 60 and 70 flights and the winner of each advances to the Flight Winner’s Playoff, an 18-hole shootout that determines the World Champion. The tournament is played on approximately 60 different Myrtle Beach area courses, including several Top 100 public layouts, and each flight plays a different course each day.
So get in the game and join in the fun. The 2012 World Am is about to make even more history – and you’ll want to be part of it!
