For seven generations, the Gosling Family has been enjoying a family secret – Gosling’s Family Reserve Old Rum. After 155 years, Malcolm Gosling has decided to let the old family secret out of the barrel and share it with rum aficionados. New to the American market, this ultra-premium aged Old Rum is crafted from the same blend of ingredients as the company’s flagship product, Gosling’s Black Seal Rum, but it is aged longer in oak barrels to create an unusual richness and complexity typically found in rare Scotches and fine Cognacs. An excellent “sipping rum”, Old Rum can step in for single malt whiskeys and fine Cognacs after a meal. Old Rum is packaged with as much painstaking care as the recipe itself. Each bottle is hand filled and hand labeled, sealed with a cork, dipped in wax and individually numbered. Each bottle is then placed in a straw-filled wooden box reminiscent of days past. Initial reception for Gosling’s Family Reserve Old Rum is impressive. At the San Francisco Spirits Competition held recently, Old Rum was honored with a Double Gold Medal. Gosling’s Family Reserve Old Rum is 40% ABV and 80 proof. It is best served neat in a brandy snifter. Available in 750ml bottles; the rum retails for about $70.00 per bottle and is available in select locations throughout Bermuda and the U.S. # # # Gosling’s Rum will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2006. For generations, the family has sold only one expression, Gosling’s Black Seal Rum, which is Bermuda’s biggest single exported product. It is a well-aged, extremely dark rum blended in Bermuda according to a secret family recipe. It is the primary ingredient for the authentic version of a legendary cocktail called the Dark ‘n StormyTM (mixed with ginger beer). Recently, Gosling’s introduced its Gosling’s Gold Bermuda Rum, a premium amber rum that is enjoying significant market success. Gosling’s Brothers Ltd. is the oldest continuing commercial business in Bermuda. Englishman William Gosling, the company founder, sent his son James Gosling to sea bound for Virginia in 1806 with an original shipment of spirits products, but the chartered clipper ship, Mercury was becalmed for over 90 days, and James was diverted to Bermuda. This led to the creation of a venerable Bermuda business that continues to grow and thrive. In 2004 Malcolm Gosling moved to the U.S. to spearhead a major American expansion of the brand. Thus, the seventh generation of the Gosling family has finally elected to complete the voyage to the United States. The U.S. importer for Gosling’s Rums is Castle Brands Inc., an international producer and marketer of premium spirits brands based in New York City with a portfolio focused primarily in four of the fastest growing segments of the spirits industry: super-premium vodka, rum, Irish whiskey and liqueur.
