The tradition of high quality J29 racing in Atlantic Canada is well known. Nova Scotia is the sailing capital of Canada, and the Atlantic J29 fleet is the premier one design class. With more than twenty five J29s within a 100 mile radius, strong attendance at this regatta is assured. Lunenburg is also rich in maritime history. Sister town to Gloucester, Massachusetts, the people of Lunenburg have an intimate connection with the sea. The Lunenburg Yacht Club has played host to many international regattas giving them the experience necessary to put on a memorable North American Championship for the J29 Class. Immediately following this event is Chester Race Week from August 15 – 18. The Chester Yacht Club is located on Mahone Bay which is along the south shore of Nova Scotia, Canada. The Bay is dotted with many Islands (some say one for every day of the year) which makes for beautiful sailing and boating of all kinds. Previous to the Chester Yacht Club, races were held from the Back Harbour. Today the highlight of the racing season is Race Week. Taking place in August it is hailed as the largest fixed keel regatta in Canada. Racing now takes place in front of the CYC Club House. Chester is located about 10 miles from Lunenburg. The North American Championship along with Chester Race Week will give you a full week of racing and social events that we’re sure will impress you. Gosling’s Bermuda Rum is proud to be the official rum of the Halifax J29 North American Championship and Chester Race Week.
